Abstract

The thesis with the title "The Effectiveness of Digital Storytelling On Teaching Simple Past Tense At Second Grade Of MAN 4 Denanyar Jombang" was written by Iqbal Izzan Aziz, NIM. 126203213234, English Education Department Study Program, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, with supervisor Dr. Elva Yohana, S.Hum, M.Pd. Kata kunci: Digital Storytelling, Story telling, Simple Past Tense. This research addresses a critical gap in contemporary pedagogical practices: the insufficient variety and perceived lack of engagement in current classroom learning methods. Traditional teaching approaches often appear monotonous and less innovative, leading to a demonstrable need for more dynamic and stimulating instructional strategies for students. This issue is further exacerbated by the underutilization of rapidly advancing technology within educational settings. Integrating modern technological tools, however, presents a significant opportunity to develop effective and innovative solutions to these prevalent teaching challenges. The primary objective of this study is to introduce digital storytelling. This learning method leverages digital technology to present educational content through short story videos, thereby functioning as an innovative medium for student engagement. Specifically, this method is hypothesized to enhance the effectiveness of digital storytelling on teaching simple past tense to students’ achievement. The research approach uses a quantitative approach with a type of quasi-experimental research with a two-group pretest-posttest design. Data collection techniques using documentation and learning outcomes tests, which are analyzed using statistical tests. Instrument test uses validity test and reliability test. Prerequisite tests used normality test and homogeneity test. Hypothesis testing uses T test. The final result of this research shows that Digital Storytelling is effective or successful in learning simple past tense at second grade students of MAN 4 Denanyar Jombang. This is evidenced by the higher test score in the experimental class that has received treatment compared to the control class that did not receive treatment.
