Abstract

This study investigated the effectiveness of fast tempo songs on twelfth grade students’ listening ability at Al-Madienah Islamic Boarding School. Listening is considered one of the most important language skills in learning English because it helps students understand spoken information, recognize pronunciation, and improve comprehension. However, many students experience difficulties in understanding spoken English, especially when native speakers speak quickly. Therefore, the use of fast tempo songs is expected to provide an engaging and effective learning medium to improve students’ listening ability. This research applied a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental design with one group pre-test and post-test. The population of this study was the twelfth grade students at Al-Madienah Islamic Boarding School, and the sample consisted of 20 students. The instruments used in this research were listening tests in the form of pre-test and post-test. The data were analyzed using the Paired Sample T-Test through SPSS 25 to determine the significance of the treatment. The findings showed that fast tempo songs had a significant effect on students’ listening ability. The result of the Paired Sample T-Test showed that the significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) was 0.000, which was lower than 0.05 (0.000 < 0.05). It means that the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of fast tempo songs was effective in improving twelfth grade students’ listening ability at Al-Madienah Islamic Boarding School. In addition, the students became more interested, motivated, and enthusiastic during the listening learning process.
