Abstract

Maula, Mazaya Ni’amil. 2026. The Practice of English Day Program To Facilitate Students in Learning Speaking at Darul Hikmah Islamic Modern School. Thesis. English Education Section, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah State Islamic University, Tulungagung. Thesis superviser: Dr. H. Susanto, S.S., M.Pd. Key Terms: English Day Program, Speaking skill, Boarding school, Qualitative Case Study Speaking is the primary skill for communicating in English, yet many students struggle to speak fluently and confidently despite ongoing instruction. Darul Hikmah Islamic Modern School addressed this issue by establishing the English Day Program, a structured extracurricular program designed to facilitate students’ speaking development. This study aimed to investigate the kinds of activities set in the English Day Program, how students practiced these activities, and the extent to which the program contributed to their speaking learning. A descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design was employed. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis involving five subjects, including the English teacher, two students’ from language section or CLI (Central Language Improvement) of OPPM (Student Organization of the Modern Islamic Boarding School) and two students’ from the English program. The findings revealed that the English Day Program consisted of five interrelated activities delivering vocabularies, delivering daily conversation, practicing conversation, practicing speech, and practicing writing sentences implemented through repetition, peer interaction, and corrective feedback. The program contributed significantly to students' speaking learning, improving their vocabulary mastery, grammatical accuracy, pronunciation, and fluency, while also strengthening their self-confidence, reducing speaking anxiety, and encouraging achievement in language competitions. The study concludes that the English Day Program is an effective, structured approach to developing students’ English speaking ability in a boarding school context.
