Writing is complex activity for EFL learners, especially for Senior High School students. Students often face difficulty on language and non-language aspect in writing. In addition the teachers have limited time to teach writing since it should be taught integrated with other skill such as reading, speaking, and listening, furthermore some teacher is still use conventional method which can make the students get bored and unmotivated in writing class. Therefor many students get low achievement when they asked to write something. However, actually in this modern era some technologies can be used by the teachers to help them for teaching writing. One of those technologies is Schoology. Schoology is website designed for Education purpose. Schoology is easy for students to be accessed because its performance is like social network that students usually use. Considering of the students low achievement and the availability of school technology to have Schoology the writer wanted to conduct this study to investigate the effectiveness of Schoology on students’ achievement in writing narrative text of second grade students at SMAN 1 Tulungagung. The formulation of research problem: Is there any significant difference on students’ writing narrative text achievement before and after being taught by using Schoology to second grade students at SMAN 1 Tulungagung? Based on the formulation research problem, the purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of Schoology on the students’ achievement in writing narrative text. This study used quantitative approach with pre-experimental one group pretest and posttest design. The population of the research was all the students of eleven grade class at SMAN 1 Tulungagung that consist of 240 students. The sample of this research is class of XI IPS 3 students consist of 32 students that were selected by purposive sampling. Meanwhile, the instrument used in this study was pretest and posttest was analyzed by using Paired Samples T-test with SPSS Windows 16.0. The finding showed that the mean of student score before being taught by using Schoology was 55.94 and student score after being taught by Schoology was 68.75. in addition, the result of statistical compulation used T-test with SPSS 16. It shows that the significant value is 0.00. it means that result of significant value indicate that the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. It means that there is significant different score on students achievement before and after taught by using Schoology. It can be concluded that Schoology is effective and it can be used as an alternative media in teaching writing narrative text.
