The Effectiveness of Mind Mapping on Visual - Learning - Styled Students in Writing Argumentative Essay at IAIN Tulungagung. Sarjana Thesis. English Education Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor: Muh. Basuni M.Pd. Keywords: Mind Mapping, Argumentative Essay, Visual Students Mind mapping technique contributes to help students’ writing ability in writing argumentative essay texts in the terms of organizing ideas, increase vocabulary, improving creativity and arranging sentences. Mind mapping technique has a relation with learning style. One of learning style is visual learning style because most of dominant students have that learning style. Mind mapping use a picture, diagrams, table, and etc to make the understanding more easily. Visual learners will use their vision and mind mapping to help them to create a note or the copies of information which is they got. The formulations of the research problems was : Is there any significant difference on visual - learning - styled students in writing argumentative essay before and after taught using mind mapping?. Based on the formulations of research problem, the purpose of this research was to: determine whether there is significant differences on visual learning - styled students in writing argumentative essay before and after taught using mind mapping. Research Method: 1) the research design in this research was experimental design with quantitative approach, 2) the population of this research was all students’ argumentative essay composed by the fifth semester of English Department students at IAIN Tulungagung which consist of (A, B, C, D and E class). 3) the sample was fifth B semester of English department students at IAIN Tulungagung consist of 27 visual learning style students. 4) the research instrument was questionare and writing test. 5) the data analysis was using T test. The result showed that the visual students’ mean score before being taught by using mind mapping was 85.22 and the visual students mean score after being taught using mind maping was 90.67. In addition, the result of statistical computation used T-test with SPSS 16. Showed that the significance value is 0.00. It means that result of significance value indicatee that the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. It means that there is significant difference on visual – learning - styled students in writing argumentative essay before and after taught using mind mapping at IAIN Tulungagung. Mind mapping technique is effective and suggested to be used to teach argumentative essay to the visual students’ college. The lecturer should apply mind mapping technique in teaching English especially in teaching writing argumentative essay because mind mapping can help visual students to creat their idea and creative thinking when they want to conduct writing. This technique is effective to make students easy to develop their argument in making argumentative essay.
