Abstract

ABSTRACT Rahayu, Lilis. Student Registered Number. 1723143099. 2018. The Use of Anticipation Guide Strategy in Reading Comprehension on Narrative Text at Tenth Grade Student of SMK PGRI 1 Tulungagung. Sarjana Thesis. English Education Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. The result of this study showed that there are three steps in teaching English by using AGS in reading comprehension on narrative text: (1) the teacher’s preparation are the teacher must prepare the lesson plan and AGS form before teaching reading material by using AGS. (2) In implementing the AGS in reading class the teacher has three steps; first he teaches by AGS form as learning media and then distributes the AGS form to the student and ask them to answer the form by marking the statement whether true or false. Secondly before the students read the text, the teacher asks them to mark the statements whether true or false in the AGS form to activate their background knowledge. Then the teacher discusses the material with the students to check their prediction and understand the text. (3) The teacher evaluates student by asking them to revise the AGS form itself and the teacher also evaluate students by conducting a test in which the test consist of multiple choices, short answer and true or false statements. Nurul Chojimah, M.Pd. Keywords: The use, Anticipation guide, reading, narrative. Reading is one skill to understand the writer’s purposes. By reading, the reader can find out some information in the world and can increase the students’ knowledge. Therefore, there are many strategies in reading comprehension to make easy in understanding the reading material. The use strategy in reading learning very important for students to help them more understand about their text. In this research, researcher observe Anticipation Guide Strategy that use by the English teacher to understand the reading material. AGS is one of the most beneficial strategies that teacher can engage in before reading to increase comprehension .Based on the explanation above the researcher is very motivated and interested in conducting the research concerning the use of AGS in reading comprehension on narrative text at SMK PGRI 1 Tulungagung. Based on the explanation above the researcher decided to conduct a study about the use of AGS in reading comprehension on narrative text by English teacher at SMK PGRI 1 Tulungagung by some research problem: 1) What is the teacher’s preparation before teaching English by using AGS at SMK PGRI 1 Tulungagung? 2) How is the teacher’s implementation of using AGS in teaching English at SMK PGRI 1 Tulungagung? 3) How is the teacher’s evaluation of using AGS in teaching English at SMK PGRI 1 Tulungagung? The purposes of this study were to: (1) to investigate what the teacher’s preparation before teaching English by using AGS at SMK PGRI 1 Tulungagung, 2) to investigate how the teacher’s implementation of using AGS at SMK PGRI 1 Tulungagung, 3) to investigate how the teacher’s evaluation of using AGS at SMK PGRI 1 Tulungagung. The research design of this research was descriptive qualitative design. Descriptive design was used in describing the data that got from research. In this research, the researcher used observation, interview and documentation in collecting the data. In this research data is the teacher’s utterances containing explanation about AGS in reading comprehension on narrative text. Here the researcher used triangulation to analyze the data through three steps; data reduction, data description and data classification.
