Keywords: Slang, American, teenage vloggers Language plays an important role in society’s life. In society, language is used to communicate and to express the idea. Social background of each person and situation can affect the kind of language they use. In communication, there are formal language and informal language. Formal language is used in formal situations, while informal language is more common in spoken language and in informal situations. Basically, to determine a context uses formal or informal language is by noticing the selected vocabulary. One characteristic of informal language is the use of slang language. Slang is informal language used by members of certain group for internal communication that may not be understood by members of other groups. In this study, the writer discusses slang language used by American teenage vloggers because vlog is a type of video which is popular among teenagers nowadays, especially vlogs made by American teenagers. However, not all people who watch their vlogs understand the meaning of slang language they use. Therefore, improving knowledge about slang is important to help the viewers to understand what the vloggers talk about. The formulations of research problems are: 1) what are the types of slang language used by American teenage vloggers in their vlogs? 2) what are the meanings of slang language used by American teenage vloggers in their vlogs? The purposes of this study are: 1) to classify the types of slang language used by American teenage vloggers in their vlogs, 2) to find out the meaning of slang language used by American teenage vloggers in their vlogs. The research design of this study is content analysis with qualitative approach. The data source of this study is taken from nine video blogs (vlogs) made by selected American teenage vloggers. The criteria to select the vloggers are: 1) American citizen, 2) 14-19 year-old, 3) have at least 10.000 subscribers on their own YouTube channel, 4) speak English, and 5) often use slang language in their vlogs. From the analysis, there are eleven types of slang used by selected American teenage vloggers, they are: society slang, the Internet slang, public house slang, Cockney slang, the theater slang, the art slang, the turf slang, publicity slang, the church slang, workmen slang, and miscellaneous slang. To support the analysis, the writer uses some dictionaries of slang language and other related references. The writer also uses some theories related to slang language and its definition. To find the words or phrases of slang, the writer selects slang words and phrases from video blogs (vlogs). Then, the writer analyzes the data through the perspective of slang types and the interpretation into Standard English. x From eleven types of slang language used by selected American teenage vloggers, the researcher finds the result that society slang dominates slang language used by American teenage vloggers. Then, the Internet slang terms in the form of abbreviation, acronym, virtual words or computer terminology are also often used by them because of the influence of social media. Besides, American teenage vloggers use publicity slang a lot. Those three types of slang language are frequently used by American teenage vloggers in their vlogs. On the other hand, other types of slang language are less used by American teenage vloggers in their vlogs
