Abstract

Keyword: Writing, Narrative text, Fairy tale The final project is about the teaching narrative text in improving Writing through fairy tale to the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Ngunut Tulungagung Teaching writing to senior high school is not an easy task. It requires a lot of creativity from a professional teacher. The objective of the study is to find out the students’ achievement in writing narrative texts. It is expected that the research would be useful for the teachers and students in language teaching and learning process. Classroom Action Research is a method of finding out what works best in your own classroom so that you can improve student learning. There are many ways to improve knowledge about teaching. Many teachers practice personal reflection on teaching, others conduct formal empirical studies on teaching and learning. Classroom Action Research is more systematic than personal reflection but it is more informal and personal than formal educational research. The goal of Classroom Action Research is to improve your own teaching in your own classroom, department, or school. While there is no requirement that the findings be generalized to other situations the results can add to knowledge base. Classroom Action Research goes beyond personal reflection to use informal research practices such as a brief literature review, group comparisons, and data collection and analysis. Validity is achieved through the triangulation of data. The focus is on the practical significance of findings, rather than statistical or theoretical significance. Findings are usually disseminated through brief reports or presentations to local colleagues or administrators. The subjects is the study tenth grade students of SMA N 1 Ngunut, in the academic year of 2012 / 2013. There were 38 students (29 girls and 9 boys). The writer took all of them as the subject of the study. The technique used for collecting data is pre-test and post-test and interview. First, the writer gave a pretest. It was conducted at the beginning of the research. Second, the second activity was held. It was continued with the third activity and post-test was conducted. At last the teacher made interview with the students about the difficulties in writing. The result of the study was that the students’ progress during teaching and learning activity by using narrative texts to improve writing skill was good. The students’ achievement in writing was improved, it was supported by the Significance result of the first activity (pre-test) was 62.21%; writing the second activity on the first cycle was 66.10%; writing the third activity 71.47%; and writing the final draft was 79.71%. Therefore, teachers should always try to create an interesting text for their teaching. Based on the result, teachers can apply narrative text to improve the students’ writing skill.
