Abstract
ABSTRACT Royidah, Chintia Aprelia Rizka (17203163158). Good EFL Learners’ Motivation in Speaking English. A Thesis of English Education Department, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung 2020. Advisor: Dr. Erna Iftanti, SS., M.Pd. Keywords: Good EFL Learners, Motivation, Speaking There are a lot of factor which influence success in language learning. However, one of the most important factors is the learners’ motivation. Motivation have important role for the achievement of student learning goals. In line with this, this study tried to investigate the good EFL learner’s motivation in speaking English. This study using qualitative research design, especially in descriptive qualitative. The sample in this study consists of 3 students. The subjects of this study employed EFL learners, they are DA, GE and MA. The potential subject chosen from the survey and interview the English students from sixth semester at Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) Tulungagung. The characteristic of good EFL learner were: active learner, find their own style and has specific strategies of learning. Research instrument of this study administering from distributed the questionnaire and interview to investigate good EFL learners’ motivation in speaking English. This research reveals that the good EFL learners’ motivation in speaking English was derived from intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. The characteristics of intrinsic motivation such as: (1) enjoy the speaking activities, (2) creates good behavior and (3) have specific purpose as their interest in speaking activities. The finding also showed that the learners have extrinsic motivation in speaking divided into two terms, short-term motivation and long-term motivation. The short-term motivation was the aim of the learning was to get good grades. In addition, the long term motivation were to get a scholarship, to be a professional businessman and to get the best job opportunities.
