Keywords: Speaking Anxiety, Factors of Speaking Anxiety, Strategies to reduce speaking anxiety, Strategies for preparing thesis presentation Speaking is regarded as an important and difficult skill in the study of the English language. It is significant because it is used for communication during the teaching and learning processes. And it is a difficult skill to master because it involves many aspects such as pronunciation, fluency, grammar, and so on. However, in order to be a master of English, students must speak fluently and clearly so that their speaking partner understands what they are saying. The active and passive students in the classroom interaction faced many problems during the process of teaching and learning, one of which was speaking anxiety. Anxiety refers to subjective feelings associated with an arousal of the automatic nervous system, such as tension, apprehension, nervousness, and worry. Each student's cause of public speaking anxiety is unique. Students must use and apply appropriate strategies to reduce their speaking anxiety. The formulation of research problems are: 1) What are the factors that influence anxiety in speaking encountered by eighth semester students of English department at IAIN Tulungagung? 2) What are the strategies of eighth semester students of English department at IAIN Tulungagung to overcome anxiety in speaking? And 3) How eighth semester students of English department at IAIN Tulungagung preparing their thesis presentation so speaking anxiety will not interfere their speaking ability ? The Purpose of the research are: 1) To know the factor that influence anxiety in speaking by eighth semester students of English department at IAIN Tulungagung. 2) To know eighth semester students of English department at IAIN Tulungagung strategies to overcome anxiety in speaking. And 3) To describe eighth semester students of English department at IAIN Tulungagung preparation before facing the thesis. Research method: 1) the research design in this research was descriptive design with qualitative approach. 2) the subject of this research were the active and passive students from eighth semester students of English Department. The procedure collecting data were: 1) the researcher collecting data through doing in-depth interview, and documentation of the study. 2) the researcher chose the subject, interviewed them one by one, transcript the result of the interview. Selected and focused on the data related with research problems. 3) the researcher showed the selected data in form of description, 4) draw conclusion based on the analyzed data. The result showed that the internal and external factors of speaking anxiety were: fear of making mistake, shyness, listening ability, topical knowledge, and feedback during speaking anxiety. strategies to reducing speaking anxiety were: preparation and relaxation. And strategies to preparing thesis presentation was practicing.
