Abstract

Abstract This article examines the meaning of carriage and kentongan flowers as a repellent for the covid-19 outbreak. How the people of Sumberejo Village understand and interpret this tradition is considered sacred and is believed to be able to repel the plague. In addition, this article also tries to identify and analyze the implementation of the tradition along with the ubo rampe used in that tradition. This article is the result of field research using descriptive qualitative ethnographic methods with an anthropological approach. The method used to collect data is literature review, observation, and in￾depth interviews. Researchers used Clifford Geertz's Theory of Cultural Interpretation of People who still maintain the tradition of expelling the plague in Sumberejo Village. This tradition has an influence in the socio-religious field for people's lives, if analyzing the content and meaning in rituals based on the cultural context, there is a noble value in each series of repelling reinforcements, especially in repelling the COVID-19 outbreak, the existence of functions and meanings as a giver of security and protection, reflecting business behavior, maintaining an identity and getting closer to the creator.
