Abstract

Keywords: English Proficiency, TOEP Test TOEP is one of the proficiency tests which have been applied by many universities and institutions to test students’ English language skill. TOEP is divided into three sections; Listening Comprehension, Structure and Written Expression, and Reading Comprehension. TOEP also becomes one of the graduation standard requirements in the universities for the students, including in IAIN Tulungagung. However, many students faced the problems in answering the TOEP test. The formulation of the research problems: How the english proficicency of the Islamic Banking students of IAIN Tulungagung? The purpose of this research: to know the english proficicency of the Islamic Banking students of IAIN Tulungagung. The research method: 1) the design in this research was descriptive design with quantitative appoarch, 2) the population in this research was all the seventh semester students of the Islamic Banking of IAIN Tulungagung, 3) the sample of this research was 279 students, 4) the research instrument was documentation. The results of this study showed that there were still many students who had a low level of understanding in the TOEP test, this was evidenced by the number of students who got a TOEP score less than the minimum value (400). From the 279 students, there are 240 students who have a TOEP score less than the minimum value (400), while for students who have a TOEP score more than the minimum value (400), there are 39 students. It can be concluded that many students still do not understand the TOEP test or the English Proficiency of the Islamic Banking of IAIN Tulungagung is was poor because many students have low understanding and low scores.
