Keywords: Speaking Anxiety, Factors of Speaking Anxiety, Strategies to reduce speaking anxiety. Speaking is regarded as an important and difficult skill in the study of the Englishlanguage. It is significant because it is used for communication during the teaching and learning processes. And it is a difficult skill to master because it involves many aspects such as pronunciation, fluency, grammar, and so on. However, the fact is that active and passive students still faced many problems during the teaching and learning process, one of which was speaking anxiety. Students should know what are the factors that caused them to feel anxious when speaking English and apply appropriate strategies to reduce their anxiety. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors that influence fourth semester students to feel anxious in speaking English and to find out the strategies usedby fourth semester students to overcome their anxiety in speaking English at the English Department of IAIN Tulungagung. The formulation of the research problems are what arethe factors that influence students of the fourth semester feel anxious in speaking English and what strategies are used by the students of the fourth semester to overcome their anxiety in speaking English at English Department of IAIN Tulungagung. The research method used in this study was descriptive method with qualitative approach. The subject of the study were three students who were selected through distributing questionnaire. The data of this study were the selected information anddescription of the factors of speaking anxiety and strategies used to reduce anxietyexperienced by the fourth semester students of English Department of IAIN Tulungagung. The data were collected by doing in-depth interview. The data in this study were in the forms of statements and descriptions and they belonged to qualitative data. The procedures of data analysis were: 1) the researcher collected data through questionnaires and in-depth interview, 2) the researcher transcribed, selected, and focusedthe data by referring to the research problem, 3) the researcher displayed those selected data in the form of a description, 4) drawing conclusion based on the analyzed data. The findings showed that the factors caused anxiety in learning English were: over self-prediction toward fear, irrational faith, over-sensitivity toward threat, the sensitivity of anxiety, wrong attribute body signal. Meanwhile, the strategies which were used by students in reducing their anxiety were: preparation, relaxation, positive thinking, peer seeking, resignation. The results of this study could give a beneficial for the students, English lectures, and future researchers.
