Keywords: Slang, Twitter, Variety of Language Twitter social media is an application used by users to upload something in the form of writing, images, or videos, and it can be used as a tool to exchange messages with fellow users. The language used in Twitter social media shows that the language is a language within a certain period. It also shows that language also experiences progress or extinction, which in sociolinguistics, the phenomenon of language in Twitter social media is also called language variation and included in the slang language category. Slang language is created by a particular group of people used in daily communication whose meaning is only known by that group. The research problem formulations are: 1) What are the forms of slang words young people use on Twitter? 2) what is the meaning of slang words young people use on Twitter?. The purpose of this study was to: 1) to know the slang forms used by young people on Twitter, 2) to find out the meaning of slang words used by young people on Twitter. The research design of this study is content analysis design with a qualitative approach; the subject of this research is the users of media social Twitter, which used slang words in their posts, twit comments, and direct messages; the data source of this study is taken from the text that contains slang words that uploaded, post, twit, comment, and direct messages made by selected young. To find out the data, the researcher used documentation as a data collection technique. The result showed five forms of slang used by young people on Twitter: clipping, blending, abbreviation, conversion, and compounding. From the five forms of slang language used by selected text that the user's Twitter account posts, tweets, comments, and direct messages, the abbreviation and conversion slang dominate the slang language used by young Twitter users. Moreover, the meaning is included in the types of connotative and denotative meanings.
