ABSTRACT Algivari, Yudith Dianovaldi. Student Registered Number 17203163198. 2023. An Analysis of Figurative Language in Adele’s Selected Song Lyrics, Sarjana Thesis. English Education Department, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, Islamic State Institute of Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. Erna Iftanti, S.S., M.Pd. Keywords: analysis, figurative language Every song commonly uses figurative language in order that people who listen to the song will be interested in and also understand what the author’s imagination is. The researcher choose figurative languages as topic of this research because figurative language is interesting and it has good meanings on the lyrics of song so it can interests the listener to listen the song because every song has message to convey to the listeners. The research problems in thie research were: 1) What kinds of figurative language found in Adele’s lyrics of selected song? 2) What is the meaning of songs using figurative language in Adele’s song? The purpose of this research were: 1) To find out the kinds of figurative language found in Adele’s lyrics of selected song. 2) To identify the meaning of songs using figurative language in Adele’s song.This study used qualitative research design with descriptive method. The data obtained from Adele’s selected song lyrics. Based on the analysis, it can be conclude that there are eight kinds of figurative languages found in four songs of Adele such as: personification, metaphor, synecdoche, hyperbole, allusion, paradox, symbols and dead metaphor. These kinds of figurative languages are used by the writer in order to make her creation in this case the songs look alive so we can feel the condition that the writer tries to show in that song
