Abstract
The Hallyu wave or Korean wave has spread widely throughout the world. Many people like everything related to Korea, such as Korean dramas (K-drama), films, food, fashion, beauty, and even Korean music (K-pop). Korean pop or K-pop is a product from Korea that is very popular with teenagers and adults. Many people admire singers from South Korea and of course, many things are done to support them. Like watching videos shared on YouTube, sometimes videos shared in Korean don't have subtitles in Indonesian, so the only way to understand the contents of the video is to use English subtitles. The current study aims to find out whether there is a significant difference in the vocabulary mastery scores of English Department students before and after being taught using English subtitles from Korean variety shows at UIN SATU Tulungagung. This research is a quantitative study with a pre-experimental research method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. Using students majoring in English Education at UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung as research subjects. This research uses tests as a data collection tool. The results of this research were that there was an increase in students' vocabulary mastery scores after receiving material about the use of videos using English subtitles. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of English subtitles in Korean variety shows has a significant effect on increasing the vocabulary of UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung students.
