Abstract
Alexandria, Nadine Stephanie. Student Registered Number. 126203201077. 2024. The Effectiveness of Using Make A Match Technique Towards The Eight-Grade Students’ Vocabulary Mastery at MTs Syafiiyah Besuk Probolinggo. Sarjana Thesis. English Education Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah State University of Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. Nurul Chojimah, M.Pd Keywords: Effectiveness, Make a Match Technique, Vocabulary Mastery Vocabulary mastery is an important ability in the foreign language learning process. By mastering and understanding the right vocabulary, it will be easier for someone to write, read, listen and communicate in writing and orally. Therefore, it is important for teachers to choose the right teaching techniques and learning strategies to help students enrich their vocabulary mastery, one of which is the make a match technique. Make a match is a cooperative learning technique where students learn using question and answer cards containing vocabulary with a predetermined time limit. By combining game elements in learning, this can make students more enthusiastic about learning English, especially learning vocabulary. This research has the following research problem, is there any significant difference in score on students’ vocabulary mastery of the eighth-grade students who learn vocabulary using make a match technique and those who learn vocabulary without the make a match technique? The objective of this research is to determine whether the difference score on students’ vocabulary mastery of the eighth-grade students who learn vocabulary using make a match technique and those who learn vocabulary without the make a match technique. The researcher used a quantitative approach using quasi-experimental research. Purposive sampling was used in this research with samples taken from two classes, namely VIII A and VIII B, totaling 59 students. The researcher used vocabulary test which was given twice as data collection, namely pre-test and post-test. The pre-test is to measure students' initial vocabulary skills, while the post-test is to test whether the make a match technique has an effect on students' vocabulary mastery or not. After the data is collected, the researcher will carry out some steps to calculate and analyze the data. Based on data explained through SPSS version 20 for Windows programs, the research results show the sig value (2-tailed) is 0.000. because the sig value. (2-tailed) is smaller than alpha (0.000 < 0.05), so it can be said that H0 is rejected and H1 is not rejected. So, it can be concluded as the final result of this research that there is any significant difference in score on students’ vocabulary mastery of the eighth-grade students who learn vocabulary using make a match technique and those who learn vocabulary without the make a match technique. The research results show that using the make match learning technique is more effective in enhancing students' mastery of vocabulary compared to using conventional learning techniques. The greater the student's vocabulary mastery, the greater the student's opportunity to be proficient in the language. Therefore, the role of teachers to always increase students' vocabulary by using teaching techniques and learning strategies that are fun for students.
