Izza, Fatma Nuril. NIM 126203202153. 2024. The Effectiveness of Using Contextual Teaching and Learning on the Seventh-Grade Students’ Speaking Ability at SMPN 1 Kalidawir Tulungagung. Thesis. English Education Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic University of Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. Arina Shofiya, M.Pd. Keywords: the effectiveness, contextual teaching and learning, speaking skill Contextual teaching and learning is one of the learning tools that can help students learn speaking skills more easily and fun. Speaking skills are one of the most important skills we learn, as they allow us to communicate with others and express our thoughts and feelings. This research aims to find whether using contextual teaching and learning is effective in speaking skills. This research was conducted at SMPN 1 Kalidawir Tulungagung, especially for seventh-grade students in the Academic Year 2023/2024. The research design used in this research was a quantitative method with a pre-experimental design one group pre-test post-test. The total sample for this research was 36 students consisting of 18 male students and 18 female students. The instrument of this research was a speaking oral test. The instrument used to gather the data was pre-test and post-test scores which were calculated and analyzed by using SPSS 29.02.0. The findings showed that the mean score of the pre-test was 7.7222 while the mean score of the post-test was 13.3611. the results of the paired sample T-test show a significance value of 0.000 and less than 0.050 (0.00 < 0.050) which means that (Ha) is accepted and (H0) is rejected. It means that there is an effective in using contextual teaching and learning in speaking skills for seventh-grade students at SMPN 1 Kalidawir, Tuungagung in the Academic Year 2023/2024. It can be concluded that contextual teaching and learning are recommended for teaching speaking.
