Speaking is an important skill used to communicate with others. Almost all students in other countries, including students in Indonesia also learn English to develop their speaking skills. If Students want their speaking skills to be better, it is not sufficient if they only learn words, phrases and grammatical features. Concerning to this fact makes a teacher think that speaking skills  must be improved and mastered by students. There are certainly many techniques that can beapplied, including Role Play technique. The aim of this research was to find out the effectiveness of roleplay in the speaking skills of eighth grade students at MTs PSM TanenRejotangan. To achieve this goal, in this study a problem was formulated, namely "Is role play effective towards students’ speakingskill at the eighth grade of MTs PSM Tanen Rejotangan?". This research uses a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design by providing a pre-test and post-test. Data was collected from the student population of MTs PSM Tanen Rejotangan. The sample consisted of 36 students who were given treatment. The data obtained were in the form of numbers which were analyzed using the paired sample t test with SPSS to calculate the data. The results of the research showed that role play was effectively used for the speaking skills of eighth grade students at MTs PSM Tanen Rejotangan. Statistical competition shows that the sign value was 0.000 and it was indicated ≤ 0.05. It means there was a significantdifference in students' scores before and after being taught using role play techniques.
