Abstract
Alfinah, Yuni. Student’s Registered Number. 126203201002. 2024. The Effectiveness of Using Kahoot Games Towards Students’ Grammar Mastery at The Eight Grades of MTs. Darul Falah Sumbegempol. Thesis. English Education Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic University of Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung. Advisor: Arpinda Syifa’a Awalin, M.Pd. Keywords: Effectiveness, Kahoot Games, Grammar Mastery Grammar is a basic element in a language that connects the arrangement of meaning with other parts. Grammar can be defined as learning about the forms or rules that exist in a language. Without grammar, a word can’t be put together and would just be a collection of meaningless pieces of words. Therefore, using certain media to teach grammar is very important. One of the media that can be used to help learners in enhancing grammar mastery is Kahoot Games. Kahoot is a software application that provides education-based online game services. The use of Kahoot media as a platform-based learning media can improve students’ grammar mastery because students become more motivated and interested in the learning process. This study was conducted by researcher to find out whether Kahoot Game is effective or not if used in learning to increase students’ grammar mastery. The problem formulation in this study is “Is there a significant difference between the grammar mastery scores of VIII grade students who are taught using Kahoot Games and those who are not taught using Kahoot Games at MTs. Daru; Falah Sumbergempol? Based on the formulation of the research problem, the objective of this study is “To find out if there is a significant difference in the grammar mastery scores of eight grades students who are taught using Kahoot Games and who are not taught using Kahoot Games at MTs. Darul Falah Sumbergempol”. This research uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental research design. The population of this study were VIII grade students at MTs. Darul Falah Sumbergempol. The sample was 54 students taken from class VIII-A as an experimental class and class VIII-B as a control class. The instrument used to collect data in this study was test. Researcher used the T-test using the SPSS version 26.0 program to analyze the data. The result of this study are: 1.) There is a difference in scores between the experimental class and control class and the control class, where the average value of the pre-test for the experiment class is 57.33 and for the post-test is 79.41 while for the control class the average value for the pre-test is 57.56 and for the post-test is 67.04. Thus it can be said if the post-test value is higher than the pre-test value. 2.) The sig result (2-tailed) of Independent Sample T-test is 0.000 and less than 0.05 (0.000<0.05). This indicates that the null hypothesis is rejected and the alternative hypothesis can be accepted. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of Kahoot Game in learning to improve grammar mastery of eighth grade students at MTs. Darul Falah Sumbergempol is effective.
