Thesis. English Education Department. Universitas Islam Negeri Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung. The 1st advisor and Dr. Sukarsono, M.Pd., and the 2nd advisor : Dr. Nurul Chojimah, M.Pd. Keyword: Conversational Implicature, Maxim Flouting, Politeness Motivation, Elemental: Forces of Nature’ Movie Implicature refers to the unspoken or implied meaning that arises in a conversation due to the context and the way language is used. Implicature is not explicitly stated in the words or phrases used but is inferred by the listener based on the speaker's intention and the conversational context. The research aims to discover and describe (1) What implicature are generated when the maxim flouting occur in the ‘Elemental: Forces of Nature’ movie and (2) What are the politeness motivation when the conversational implicature generated in the ‘Elemental: Forces of Nature’ movie. The study was conducted using a pragmatic approach. The data source for this research was the movie "Elemental: Forces of Nature." The data in this study consisted of utterances from "Elemental: Forces of Nature" containing conversational implicature. Documentation was used by the researcher to collect the data. There are several findings on conversational implicature in this study. There are 21 conversational implicature found in total. 5 data found when the maxim of quantity flouted, then also 5 data found when the maxim of quality flouted, then 7 data found when the maxim of relation flouted, the least data found were on flouting maxim of manner, there are only 4 data found. When a maxim was flouted, implicature was generated, leading the hearer to question the speaker's intent. To understand the implications, the hearer should have fully observed the context and then elaborated on the speaker's utterances. The research found that implicature in the movie served both politeness and impoliteness. The researcher suggested that even impoliteness could be a form of politeness since it involved indirect communication, which mitigated face-threatening acts (FTAs).
