Abstract

ABSTRACT Thesis on "The Dynamics of Interpretation in Muhammadiyah Discourse on Interreligious Relations in the Tafsir Tematik Al-Qur'an tentang Hubungan Sosial Antar Umat Beragama and Tafsir At-Tanwir by Majelis Tarjih dan Tajdid Muhammadiyah.” is the work of Sukma Khusnul Arifani by NIM. 12503184006, the Postgraduate Study Program in Al-Qur'an and Interpretation at UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung who is supervised by Dr. Ahmad Zainal Abidin, M.A and Dr. Salamah Noorhidayati, M.Ag. This research is driven by the fact that progressive and conservative factions in Muhammadiyah hold differing views on religious pluralism. The Thematic Interpretation of the Qur'an on Social Relations Between Religious People is seen as representative of the progressive group, whilst the Tafsir of At-Tanwir is regarded as representative of the conservative group. Progressive and conservative groups' divergent view points led to the sealing of the Thematic Interpretation of the Qur'an on Social Relations Among Religious People. The Thematic Tafsir book was rejected because the topic highlighted in the study of the commentary book was a contentious topic that sparked a controversy between progressive and conservative factions. This is a library study using primary data (library research) from Thematic Tafsir of the Qur'an on Social Relations Between Religious People and Tafsir At-Tanwir by the Tarjih Council and Tajdid Muhammadiyah. The formulations of the problem for this thesis are as follows: 1. What did the Thematic Tafsir of the Qur'an on Social Relations Between Religious People and Tafsir At-Tanwir come into existence?, 2. How are Surah Al-Baqarah verse 105 and Surah Ali Imran verse 64 of the Qur'an interpreted in the Thematic Interpretation of the Qur'an on Social Relations Between Religious People and Tafsir At-Tanwir?, 3. How dynamic is the Quran's interpretation within Muhammadiyah? According to the findings of this study, the dynamics of the Qur'an's interpretation in Muhammadiyah may be traced back to the 2005 MUI fatwa No. 7/2005 on pluralism, liberalism, and secularism, which led to religious puralism resistance in Muhammadiyah. Progressive groups claim that underneath the variances that occur in terms of religious teaching and practices, generally all faiths offer the same message to mankind. However, conservative groups refer to this viewpoint as plurality, not pluralism. Different perspectives on religious pluralism have resulted in disparate readings of the Thematic Interpretation of the Qur'an on Social Relations between Religious People and Tafsir At-Tanwir, so influencing the dynamics of the Qur'an's interpretation in Muhammadiyah.
