I, M.Pd Keywords: reading comprehension, questioning strategy This research is motivated by the phenomenon that reading is a basic skill for English students that is important to master. Through reading, students can understand and analyze the content of a reading. One approach that is interesting and can create a relaxed atmosphere in the reading class is the questioning strategy. This strategy is a very meaningful technique in learning, where students are invited to actively participate in the learning process. This research adopts the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method developed by Kemmis and Taggart. The research subjects consisted of class VIII students at SMP Muallimin Wonodadi Blitar, with a total of 21 students consisting of 9 boys and 12 girls. Researchers collaborated with English teachers to implement questioning strategies in reading learning for one month, in the second semester of the 2023/2024 academic year, from March to May. The aim of this research is to develop a new model of teaching that encourage students' understanding of reading texts. This classroom action research approach follows the model proposed by Kemmis and Mc Teggart (Mc Niff, 1988:27), which planning, implementation, observation, and reflection . This strategy can be revised if the evaluation shows that the desired results are not achieved. From all processes in cycle 1 from the first meeting until third meeting, it can be concluded that there were 9 students or 42% of the total students who got a score ≥ 75. Then the researcher continued to cycle 2. From cycle 2 starting from the first meeting to the third meeting, there were 17 students or 80% of the number of students who get a score ≥ 75. The results of two research cycles showed an increase in student achievement in reading comprehension. From the first cycle to the second cycle, there was an increase in value of 38%. Some suggestions for improving the quality of reading learning include providing support and motivation to students, as well as considering the use of questioning strategies to encourage students' active, competitive and courageous involvement in learning. Thus, it can be concluded that the questioning strategy is an effective tool in improving reading learning for class VIII students at SMP Muallimin Wonodadi Blitar
