Abstract
"The Practice of Coexistence in Language, Literature & Language Teaching” was written in response to the increasingly interconnected world, so that the ability to coexist harmoniously amidst various cultures, languages, and perspectives becomes essential. This book explores how language and literature can serve as powerful tools for fostering understanding and empathy among individuals from different cultural backgrounds. It also provides a comprehensive analysis of how coexistence can be nurtured through effective language teaching practices and the study of literature. One of the central themes of this chapter is how to promote the EFL students’ language skills through Extensive Reading Program (ERP). This chapter empirically discusses that The ERP with its specific features of reading extensively for enjoyment has valuable advantages for EFL undergraduate students in two ways. The first is that students who attend this ERP can select their reading resources as their interest and level of language difficulties. Then, they can read their own selected texts at their own convenient time and pace. However, in the context of teaching and learning, teachers can provide an instrument, a reading log, to monitor their students’ extensive reading program and check their student’s reading progress in both language areas- enhancing reading fluency, accelerating vocab acquisition, improving Grammar Proficiency, Encouraging the overall Language fluency- and in the affective domain- creating fun and joy.
