The Effectiveness of Using Hand Puppets as Media on the Students’ Achievement in Writing Narrative Text (A Quasi-Experimental Study on the Eight Grade Students of MTs Darul Huda Wonodadi in the Academic Year of 2016/2017). Writing is the process in which students are able express their ideas, opinions, feelings, and organized them in simple sentences or in short paragraph well, which involve the correct grammar, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation. In competence based Curriculum 2013 for the second grade of Junior high school, especially for narrative text, there are some aspects that are used as basic in teaching and learning process, such as : Understanding the social function, generic structure and language features of narrative text in form of fable, according to the context its used. Getting the meaning of oral and written narrative text in form of short and simple fable. The research problems are : Is there any significant difference in the achievement between the students who were taught using hand puppets and those who were taught without using hand puppets ? The research objectives are : To find out if there is any significant difference in the achievement between the students who were taught using hand puppets and students who were taught without using hand puppets. To achieve the objective, the researcher conducted an experimental research. The research design used was quasi experimental named Nonrandomized Control Group Design. The population of the study was the eighth graders of MTs Darul Huda Wonodadi. The total number of the sample was 55 students, class VIII C as the control class and class VIII D as the experimental class. There are three steps in this study: pre-test, treatment, and post-test. Before the experiment, researcher held the try-out test to get its validity and reliability of the instruments. The result of the test was then analyzed by using t-test at SPSS 16.0 version. In the pre-test, the result of the study showed that the means of the experimental class was 65.9286 and the control class was 62.5926. After they got the treatments, the result of the test showed that the experimental class performed better than the control class and showed a great progress. In this test, the mean score of the experimental class was 72.6429; whereas the control class was 67.7037. The result of computation, tcount was 3.352 and the ttable was 2.005. Since the tcount is higher than ttable, so the working hypothesis is refused. It means that there was a significance difference in achievement between the students who were taught using hand puppets and those who were taught without using hand puppet in writing narrative text. The result of this study showed that using hand puppets as media on the students’ achievement in writing narrative text is very beneficial for the students. Finally, it can be concluded that using hand puppets as media is effective on the students’ achievement in writing narrative text for the eighth grade of MTs Darul Huda Wonodadi in the academic year 2016/2017.
