Abstract
Multimodal discourse analysis started to become a interesting topic for the recent 5 years. Most of the previous researcher have purpose to find the meaning behind the discourse. From the previous studies, theresearcher found an idea to find the message and the meaning through multimodal discourse analysis. The research questions in this study are: (1) how is the multimodal discourse analysis in Tolak Angin ads? (2) how is the message in Tolak Angin ads? (3) How is themeaning in Tolak Angin ads? The purpose of this study is to contribute the study of language especially about how is communication modes deliver the meaning and message in advertisement. This study uses qualitative approach with content analysis method. The data of this study ar 5 short video of Tolak Angin advertisements. The research instruments used were Kress and Leeuwen (2006) ’s multimodal theory, Anstey and Bull (2010) ’s semiostic multimodal system included visual, gestural, audio, spatial, and linguistic. Further, this study used the previous studies to validate the data result. This study obtained the following results: (1) The result showed that the researcher find each modes in the five Tolak Angin advertisement. Each modes showed a interesting and convincing element. (2) The researcher found 7 mesage in Tolak Angin advertisment. (3.) The researcher concluded there are 7 symbol which each of them hold spesific meaning in the Tolak Angin advertisement.
