Abstract
Vocabulary is one of the most important components to teach students when studying English as a foreign language. A limited vocabulary can hinder students’ success in mastering the language. They are less interested in studying English. Therefore, in this modern age, English teachers can try learning media that creative and entertaining to teach vocabulary, such as Antonym Matching Game, to make the English learning process more interactive and enjoyable. The purpose of this research is to determine significant different scores before and after being taught by using antonym matching game at SMKN 1 Bandung. To achieve this purpose, the researcher conducted an experimental research. The formulation of the problem in this study is “Is there any significant difference in vocabulary score of students of the first grade at SMKN 1 Bandung before and after taught by antonym matching games?” This research was conducted using a quantitative approach with pre-experimental research method. The population in this study was X class at SMKN 1 Bandung, the sample in this study was X TSM 4 class at SMKN 1 Bandung, with the total number 37 students. The instrument used in this study was a test in the form of pre-test and post-test of vocabulary, the data analysis used was a paired sample t-test. Based on the result of data analysis, it can be conclude that use of antonym matching game was effective for the first grade students’ vocabulary mastery score at SMKN 1 Bandung. This effectiveness is shown by the increase in average score of students in the pre-test and post-test. From 64.73 to 83.92. Then the result of the paired sample t-test show a significance value of 0.000 and less than 0.050 (0.000 < 0.050). It means that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. Hence, there was significant different in vocabulary score of students before and after being taught by using antonym matching game. Then can be conclude that antonym matching game was effective used for vocabulary mastery.
