Advisor: Dr. Nurul Chojimah, M.Pd Keywords : cohesion, grammatical, lexical, World Islamic Economic Forum Cohesion is the linguistic element that makes a discourse semantically coherent. Cohesive devices covered grammatical cohesive devices and lexical cohesive devices. The functions of cohesive devices are to make sentences cohesive and coherent as the indicator of text unity. Not only in written text, spoken text also need grammatical and lexical cohesive devices as the text composition to make utterances interconnected. Those devices also can help the hearer easy to understand what the speaker wants. For that reason, the formulations of research problems were: (1) what grammatical cohesive devices are used in Jokowi’s speech in World Islamic Economic Forum 2016?. (2) What lexical cohesive devices are used in Jokowi’s speech in World Islamic Economic Forum 2016?. While the objective of this research were (1) to investigate grammatical cohesive devices are used in Jokowi’s speech of World Islamic Economic Forum 2016 (2) to investigate lexical cohesive devices are used in Jokowi’s speech in World Islamic Economic Forum 2016. Research method of this research is descriptive method with qualitative approach. The data source in this research is transcript of Jokowi’s speech in World Islamic Economic Forum 2016. To analyze data the researcher did some steps. They are (1) downloading the speech in Youtube, (2) listening and writing the speech’s transcript, (3) reading and understanding, (4) noting utterances containing grammatical and lexical cohesive devices. The result of this research covered grammatical and lexical cohesive devices. The findings of grammatical cohesive devices include 14 references, 1 ellipsis, and 4 conjunctions, while the findings of lexical cohesive devices include 4 repetitions, 2 hyponymy, and 4 metonymies. Based on the data that have shown, it can be conclude that the type of grammatical cohesive devices most frequently used is reference, meanwhile repetition and metonymy are type of lexical cohesive devices most frequently used.
