Thesis. English Education Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. H. Nursamsu, S.Pd.I.,M.Pd. Keywords: The effectiveness, Vocabulary Mastery, Stop Motion Animation Vocabulary is one of the important elements of language and it is influence the ability of students to write, read, speak and listen. The use of Stop Motion Animation is expected to have a positive effect in increasing students’ interest in learning and then will affect their learning outcomes. In this case, Stop Motion Animation is used to learn vocabulary. The formulation of the research problem was: Is Stop Motion Animation effective for teaching vocabulary of seventh grade at MTsN 5 Tulungagung?. The objective of this research was to find out the effectiveness of using Stop Motion Animation in improving students’ vocabulary mastery of seventh grade at MTsN 5 Tulungagung. The research design of this study was Quasi-experimental design with quantitative approach. The population of this research was the seventh grade students of MTsN 5 Tulungagung. While, the samples of this research were VII C as experimental class consisted of 41 students and VII D as the control class consisted of 41 students. The research instrument was in the form of vocabulary test which consisted of 25 questions. The data analysis was using Independent Sample T-Test by using Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) 18.0. The result showed that the students’ mean score of experimental class before being taught by using Stop Motion Animation was 71.61 and students’ mean score after being taught by using Stop Motion Animation was 84.83. In the control class also there is improvement score from 65.76 became 73.56. However, the improvement in experimental class was higher than control class. In addition, the result of statistical computation used Independent Sample T-Test with SPSS 18.0 showed that the significance value is 0.000. It mean that the significance value was smaller than the significance level (0.000<0.05). The result of significance value indicated that the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. It mean that there was a significant difference scoreon students’ vocabulary mastery taught by using Stop Motion Animationand those taught by using Conventional Method. In other words, Stop Motion Animation was effective in increasing students vocabulary mastery.
