Keyword: Practices, Teaching English, In learning a foreign language, the mastery of English skill is considered as a priority for the language learner. It becomes the measurement in determining someone mastering that language. Since there is no single magic formula for successful foreign language learning, it is important for the teacher to establish some strategies, methods in teaching English. The teacher should know how the effective practice of teaching English is. The existence of appropriate material and media, teaching technique and activity provided should be in form of the act in supporting student’s ability in English inside and outside of the class which is reflected in the daily activities. Hence, it encouraged the writer to conduct research about practices in teaching English that done by the English teachers, English tutors and the students of MAN PK 4 Jombang. Since the students of this school have good achievement in English communication. The research problem of this study can be specified as 1) What practices are carried out in the class? 2) What practices are carried out outside the class? The general objective of this research is to describe the teacher’s practices in teaching English at MAN 4 PK 4 Jombang. Then, the purpose can be specifically stated as 1) To know what practices are carried out in the class. 2) To know what practices are carried out outside the class. The research design of this study was descriptive design with a qualitative approach. The data source of this research was an English teacher, tutor, and students of MAN PK 4 Jombang. The data of this research were obtained by conducting an interview, conducting observation, questionnaire, and documentation. Then, the data were analyzed using interactive analysis method by Miles and Huberman covering data reduction, data display, and drawing a conclusion. To check the trustworthiness of data, the resercher used data source and methodological triangulation in this study. In term of using data source triangulation, the researcher checks the validity of the data by collecting the data through several sources. Meanwhile, the writer also collected the data using more than one method. As a result of this research, the researcher finds that there was some method was increasing the students' English that used by teachers of MAN PK 4 Jombang. It was Direct Method, Communicative Language Teaching, and Silent Way Method, the teachers adjust the method used to teaching English in MAN PK 4 Jombang based on the student needs. Besides that, there were practices or support activities in teaching English of MAN PK 4 Jombang, these activities to supporting the English skills of students. The practice was carried out in the class (on morning in the school) included Conversation, Small Discussion and Presentation and the practice werecarried outside the class there were conversation that used English language (on afternoon in the dormitory of MAN PK 4 Jombang) that are done by the teacher, tutor, and the students. This practice emphasized more on the process of communicating, interacting and activating of students. By applying teaching and learning both inside and outside of the class, the students are demanded to active in English and the goal of this school can be realized.
