Abstract
Key word : Language laboratory, and Teaching listening English an International Language has an important role to interact, converse, and share to other people in the world. Listening is one of important aspects in the language teaching learning. The basic reason is the natural order for first and second language learning is listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Teaching listening is not easy to do, but there are many ways to reach goals of teaching listening from the material, process or technique and media. Teachers can not do it traditionally anymore, it means they only bring book, come to the class, giving explanation, than students just listen to the teacher’s voice. Language laboratory considered as one of media in teaching listening because language laboratory can make listening more alive, then the students can hear the recorded materials. They can communicate wit the teacher directly and listen to the original sounds from the native speaker. The formulations of the study are: (1) What is the material used by the teacher in teaching listening using language laboratory at MA plus Raden Paku Trenggalek? (2) What are the media used by the teacher in teaching listening? (3) How is the process of teaching listening using language laboratory? (4) What is the problem faced by the teacher in teaching listening by using language laboratory? . Research methodology was used in this research is descriptive with qualitative approach. In this case the point of descriptive research is to collect and accumulate the basic data in descriptive way. It is intended to make description about the study on the use of language laboratory in teaching listening. Subject of the study are all of the second years students at MA Plus Raden Paku Trenggalek. The source of data comes from primary data and secondary data. The data collection method are used to collect the data were observation, interview and documentation. In this study, the researcher employs qualitative technique to analyze the data. The qualitative data are analyzed by inductive method. After analyzing the data, it can be concluded : (1) The material used by the teacher in teaching listening using language laboratory at MA plus Raden Paku Trenggalek are: Reports text, Analytical exposition, Narrative text, Hortatory exposition, Spoof text and sometime using English song or English movie. And the sources of material from internet, Erlangga, Kresna, Esis, and BSE. (2) There are three process of teaching listening using language laboratory, they are: Pre-listening activity, While-listening activity, and post-listening activity. (3) In teaching listening at MA plus Raden Paku Trenggalek, the teacher used some media, they are: Tape recorder and VCD. (4) There are many problems faced by the teacher in teaching listening. The students difficulties to interpret what they had listened. The difficulties conclude: Speaker factor, listener factor, contents of material, and support. The researcher’s suggestions are: (1) The headmaster should employ the teachers, the headmaster improves the school facility to support the teaching learning process. (2) The teacher should motivate the students to be more active, the teacher should often ask to other teachers and join workshop and seminar in teaching listening using language laboratory. (3) The students should increase their frequency in listening English material, the students should practice their ability by using English in their communication and study hard by reviewing their lesson in their home. (4) For the future researcher who want to conduct research with the some subject or different discussion, the writer hopes that this research may be useful as an addition a reference. At last, it is hoped that the result of this study can be used to improve the students’ ability in mastering English skill or as least it can be used as input for English teacher to improve her knowledge in teaching English.
