Abstract

Reading is something crucial and indispansable for the students because the suceess of their study depends on the greater part of their ability to read. In reading, the readers should know the meaning of the sentences it means that the readers should understand the writers intention. Thre are many reasons for geeting students to read english text, this is an important part of teacher’s job. Therefore, the teacher should have good way to make the students understand the reading materials. Thus, the teacher needs interesting strategy to motivate the students. Team Game Tournament (TGT) is a strategy that placed the students in a team work that consist of 4 to 6 members who have different abilities, sexs, races, or ethnics. It is hoped to motivate the students to help each other, the students who have higher ability can help the other who need more explanation to master the learning. So it will make the students interest. The problem of this research is; (1) How is the students’ reading achievement taught by using Team Game Tournament (TGT) strategy? (2) How is the students’ reading achievement without taught by using Team Game Tournament (TGT) strategy? (3) Is there any significant difference of the students’ reading achievement taught by using Team Game Tournament (TGT) strategy and without taught by using Team Game Tournament (TGT) strategy?. This research is aimed to find out; (1) To find out the students’ reading achievement taught by using Team Game Tournament (TGT) strategy. (2) To find out the students’ reading achievement without taught by using Team Game Tournament (TGT) strategy. (3) To find out significant difference of the students’ reading achievement taught by using Team Game Tournament (TGT) strategy and without taught by using Team Game Tournament (TGT) strategy. In this research, the researcher used quasy-experimental research desain to achieve the reseach objective. The subject of this research were the second grade of SMAN 1 Tulungagung. There were two classes observed for this research, Sains 1 as the experimental group and the Sains 2 as the control group. Different treatmen were given to both group. The experimental group was taught by Team Game Tournament strategy. While the control group was taught by lecturing strategy. There were four meetings for each group including the pre-test and the post-test. The method of collecting data that used is reading test. The analysis technique used is SPSS 16 especialy Independet Sample T-test. Research finding is the result of computation using T-test showed that significance 2-tailed is 0.000. The explanation of the result of significance 2-tailed and significance level said that sig 2-tailed < sig level (0.000 < 0.05), so the Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted its proved that Team Gmae Tournament strategy is effective to improve the students achievement in reading in hortatory exposition text.
