The Effectiveness of Using Imagine, Elaborate, Predict and Confirm (IEPC) Strategy in Teaching Reading Comprehension in Descriptive Text of 7th Grades at MTs PSM Jeli Karangrejo. Thesis. Keyword : Effectiveness, Imagine Elaborate Predict and Confirm Strategy, Descriptive text, Reading comprehension. Reading is the most essential English skill for success in educational context. Through reading, students can get new information and knowledge. In improving the students' achievement, the teachers has an important role in teaching reading. The teacher should be creative in finding better strategies to deliver the material. Therefore, Imagine, Elaborate, Predict and Confirm (IEPC) is strategy which can be used to solve the problems in understanding descriptive text in reading comprehension. From the description above, the formulation of the research problem was : Is IEPC strategy effective for teaching reading comprehension of descriptive text in the seventh grade at MTs PSM Jeli Karangrejo. The objective of this research was to find out if there is any significant difference score in the students reading comprehension between students taught with and without using Imagination, Elaborate, Predict and Confirm Strategy of seventh grade at MTs PSM Jeli Karangrejo in the academic year 2018/2019. The research design of this study was quasi experimental design with quantitative approach. The population is the seventh grade. In taking the sample, the researcher used purposive sampling. Through this technique, class VII A was chosen as a control class consisted of 40 students and VII B as an experimental class consisted of 40 students. The data were gethered into the pretest and posttest. The data analysis was using Independent Sample t test using Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) 16.0. The results showed that the students mean score in experimental group before being taught using by Imagination, Elaborate, Predict and Confirm Strategy (IEPC) is 75.38 and the students mean score after being taught using by Imagination, Elaborate, Predict and Confirm Strategy (IEPC) is 83.88. In the control group also there is improvement mean score from 63.62 became 73.75. The results of the statistical computation used Independent Sample T Test with SPSS 16.0, showed that the significance value is 0,000. It means that the significant value is smaller than the significant level (0.000 <0.050) The results of significant value indicates that the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. It means there was a significant effect of using Imagination, Elaborate, Predict and Confirm (IEPC) Strategy on student achievement in reading comprehension at MTs PSM Jeli Karangrejo. So it can be concluded that using Imagination, Elaborate, Predict andConfirm Strategy (IEPC) on reading ability of descriptive text is effective to improve students' reading comprehension.
