Keyword: Effectiveness, Vocabulary, Mnemonic Acrostic A lot of learning strategies which offer to master vocabulary in learning second language can be found massively. However, what the learners need is a learning strategy which can ease them but still produce optimal result. The researcher offers a technique can be help students to master in vocabulary. Vocabulary is a core component of language proficiency and provides much of the basis for how well learners speak, listen, read, and write. It means that by having a wide range of vocabulary, students can learn four basic skills of English for certain purposes. There are many strategies and techniques that can be applied for teaching vocabulary. One of them is Mnemonic Acrostic Technique. Mnemonic Acrostic was designed to help remember new vocabulary. The researcher wanted to explore the use of Mnemonic Acrostic technique to teach students’ vocabulary in learning English especially in recount text. This research aimed to get the empirical evidence of the effectiveness of mnemonic acrostic technique in teaching student’s vocabulary in recount text of eighth grade at MTsN 7 Tulungagung. This research used quantitative method. The design used in this research was pre-experimental with one group pre-test and post-test designed. The population of this research were all of the students of eighth grade at MTsN 7 Tulungagung. The sample of this research was VIII A class which consists of 38 students; the sample was selected by using purposive sampling technique. Meanwhile, the instruments used in this research were vocabulary test with fill in the blanks (pre-test and post-test). It was conducted before and after the students getting the treatments. The data of this research were obtained from the students’ pre-test and post-test score, and then the data were analysed by using Paired Samples T-test with SPSS 24.0. The research finding showed that there was increasing score on the students’ vocabulary mastery. It can be seen from the mean of post-test score 85.53, was higher than the mean of pre-test score 75.53. From statistical calculation showed that the significant value is 0.000 which was smaller than the significant level (0.050). it means that the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. So, it can be concluded that Mnemonic Acrostic was effective and it can be used as an alternative technique in teaching vocabulary.
