Abstract
ABSTRACT Pawestri. Student Registered Number. 1723143142. 2018. The Effectiveness Of Teaching English by Using Bulletin Board Media Towards The Students’ Ability In Writing Descriptive Text Of 1 st Grade Students At Islamic Junior High School 4 Tulungagung.Thesis. English Education Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. Sukarsono, M.Pd. Keywords: effectiveness, Bulletin Board media, writing in descriptive text Bulletin Board media is one of interesting media that could be used in teaching writing in descriptive text . This media used some pictures and written text. Through the use of Bulletin Board media, the students could built and develop their knowledge in writing descriptive text. Besides, this media could motivate students to learn writing descriptive text in some topic. In this study, the researcher tried to implement Bulletin Board media in teaching writing descriptive text to know its effectiveness toward the first grade students’ ability in writing descriptive text at MTsN 4 Tulungagung The formulation of the research problem were: 1) how is the students’ ability in writing descriptive text before being taught by using bulletin board media? 2) how is the students’ ability in writing descriptive text after being taught by using bulletin board media? 3) are there significant difference of the students’ability in writing descriptive text before and after being taught by using bulletin board media?. The research method: 1) the researh design used in this researh was pre-experimental design with quantitative approach, 2) the population of this research was the first grade students of MTsN 4 Tulungagung, 3) the samples were 35 students taken from VII D class, 4) the research instrument used to collect the data was test, 5) the researcher used t-test formula by using SPSS program 16.0 version to analyze the data. The result of this research indicates: (1) the students’ mean score of pretest was 61.60. (2) the students’ mean score of post-test was 73.83. (3) there was different score between pre-test and post-test. There was shown score T-test computation by using SPSS program 16.0 version was 0.785 and it was bigger than ttable 0.05. So in this research, H1 was accepted and H0 was rejected. It means that, Bulletin Board media was effective used to improve students’ writing in descriptive text. Bulletin Board media can be used as an alternative media applied by English teacher in teaching and learning writing activity especially for descriptive text.
