Keywords: WhatsApp, Vocabulary, Motivation, Industrial revolution 4.0 In industrial revolution 4.0, digitalization is leading to fundamental changes in education and training. Every student has a smartphone with its features. These features can be used for learning English by creating an online class. The researcher has ever conducted some treatments to improve the student’s motivations by using social media in the previous academic year at one of Junior High School. Shortly, this mini research showed that social media gave a good effect on students’ motivation. Then the researcher wanted to try a similar project at another school at a higher level. This study answered two research questions about whether WhatsApp group chat is effective or not on students‘ vocabulary mastery, and what is the students‘ perspective toward this implementation. The hypothesis is that WhatsApp group chat was effective on students‘ vocabulary mastery and WhatsApp group chat was not effective on students‘ vocabulary mastery. The purpose of this study is to support the implementation of hybrid learning in line with the industrial revolution 4.0 era. It is quasi-experimental with a quantitative approach. Two classes became the subject of the study to represent the whole students of MAN 1 Trenggalek as the population. The result of the study showed that by using WhatsApp group chat, the students could improve significantly on vocabulary mastery, and the students gave positive responses toward this implementation. This study presented the effectiveness of using WhatsApp Group Chat on vocabulary mastery for Indonesian students. The results showed that using WhatsApp was significantly effective in learners’ vocabulary mastery. Furthermore, using WhatsApp as a learning tool has been a positive experience for most participants as it has increased their motivation for learning. The learner and educator then would apply WhatsApp Group Chat in the teaching and learning process for any more aspects of English material.
