Key Words : buzz group technique, recount text, writing Writing is one of the skills as the most complex language skill to study. One of the steps that must be considered in writing are content, organization, grammar, vocabulary, and mechanics. Sometimes the students ignore it and also the students often make errors in learning writing in order to immediately finished a written work. There is one of the technique that can be used for students so that the learning process in the classroom becomes different, pleasant, and delight. Therefore, this study investigated wether the use of buzz group technique is effective or not to teach writing recount text on tenth grade at SMA Antartika Sidoarjo. The research problems of this research are: (1) How is students’ achievement in writing recount text before being taught by using Buzz Group technique? (2) How is students’ achievement in writing recount text after being taught by using Buzz Group technique? (3) Is there any significance different between the students’ achievement in writing recount text before and after being taught by using Buzz Group technique?. The objectives of this research are to: (1) find out students’ achievement in writing recount text before being taught by using Buzz Group technique. (2) find out students’ achievement in writing recount text after being taught by using Buzz Group technique; and (3) to find out significant difference between the students’ achievement in writing recount text before and after being taught by using Buzz Group technique. The research method used in this research was quantitative research method. Then, The research design is a pre-experimental design by using one-group pre test and post test. Next, the sample of this research was XS3 at SMA Antartika Sidoarjo that consisted of 38 students. While the research instrument used was test. The stages carried out by the researcher were pre-test, treatment, post-test. The researcher analyzes the data by using Paired T-test with SPSS 16.0. The result of this study showed that there is a significant difference between the result of the pre-test and post-test. The average score at the post-test 20.82 was higher compared to the pre-test 12.53. From the results of the statistical calculations, the result obtained from the value of Sign. (2 tailed) was 0.000 and it can be conclude that alternative hypothesis (Ha) accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. The use buzz group technique in teaching writing recount text is effective and can be used as an alternative technique to teach writing recount text at SMA Antartika Sidoarjo.
