Keyword: Student’s Percption, Student’s Expectation, Teacher’s Talk In teaching and learning process in the classroom there must be communication between students and teacher. Teachers have important role to communicate with students because they have big opportunities to give direction, explanation, interaction, feedback and etc. The verbal language that teacher use to communicate with students it is called with teacher’s talk. Teacher’s talk itself is divided into two aspects that are question to initiate an interaction and give feedback to student’s response. In teacher’s talk there are tree features of questions, that are matter of procedural question, convergent or display question and divergent question. While about feedback there are two features of teacher feedback, three are feedback to incorrect or no response and feedback to correct response. Appropriate teacher’s talk can create harmonious atmosphere and at the same time bring up more friendly relationship between teacher and student, and create more opportunities for students to participate actively during the language learning process. To know appropriate teacher’s talk for students in the class the teacher should know what are the student’s perception and expectation about teacher’s talk that they want and need. The formulation of research problem: what are the student’s perceptions and expectations about teacher’s talk in teaching and learning English in the classroom? Related to the research problem that has been stated, this research have aim to know the student’s perceptions and expectations about teacher’s talk that they want and need in teaching and learning English in the classroom. The research design that was used in this research was survey research design by using questionnaire with descriptive quantitative approach. The population of this research is students of the first grade at MA Al – Ma’arif N Tulungagung. There were two classes as the sample, they were X IIS consisted of 27 students and X MIA consisted of 16 students. The result of this research divided into two categories the first is student’s perception toward teacher’s talk when giving question and feedback. In this category, the result of data finding shown that the highest score on statement number 9, with total score is 198, mean 4.60 and responded SA (Strongly Agree) by 72.1% (31) students. Then the lowest data score on statement number 14, with total score is 73, mean 1.70, and responded with two kind of responses that are DA (Disagree) by 44.2% (19) and SDA (Strongly Disagree) by 44.2% (19). And the second is student’s expectation toward ideal teacher’s talk when giving question and feedback. The next category have data finding with highest score on statement number 22 and 23, both of statement have same total score 196, mean 4.56, and responded SA (Strongly Agree) by 65.1% (28) students. Then the lowest data score on statement number 14, with total score is 113, mean 2.63 and responded DA (Disagree) by 51.5% (22) students. Not only that based on data finding conclude that most of students have positive response about teacher’s talk it can know from 26 statements in the questionnaire have 23 positive responses, 2 neutral responses and 1 negative response.
