Keyword: Peer Review, Writing, Recount Text Writing becomes a vital skill that should be mastered by foreign language learners. Even though it is vital, writing is also being the most difficult skill for them. Grammar, the differences between spoken and written form, preposition use and memorizing vocabulary usually become problems. Not only that, when the material is about types of text like recount, descriptive, narrative, and the others type of text, they will feel more difficult because they need to make many sentences that should be coherent. Peer review is one of method that can be used in developing students’ achievement especially in writing. Usually in learning process in the classroom, a review is only from the teacher, and it will spend more time for all students get a review for their works. In peer review, every students has a chance to assess friend’s work to improve and identify the mistakes. Not only one side, for the reviewer also get benefit. As reviewers, they should master the material, so that they can give good review on their friends’ work. By doing that, reviewer could understand the material well unconsciously, besides they could get review from their friends. The formulation of research problem: is there any significant difference between students’ writing achievement in Recount Text taught by using peer review and those who are taught by using conventional method? Related to the research problem that has been stated, this research is intended to find out whether there is any significant difference between students’ writing achievement in Recount Text taught by using peer review and those who are taught by using conventional method. The research design that was used in this research was quasi-experimental research design with nonrandomized control group, pretest-posttest design. The population is students of the first grade at MAN 1 Tulungagung. There were two classes as the sample, they were A.19 MIPA 4 consisted of 27 students and A.19 MIPA 5 consisted of 23 students. The results of the mean scores of samples on post-test in experimental group was 79,83, and in control group was 75,56. The data of both post-test were not normally distributed, so that the researcher used Mann-Whitney U Test in hypothesis testing. The result of the test showed that p-value was 0,003, but it is still for two tailed test. Since this research is one-tailed, p-value has to be divided into two, equals 0,0015. It could be concluded that p-value (0,0015) < α (5% = 0,05), so that Ha is not rejected while Ho is rejected. It means that, there is significant difference in writing achievement between students who are taught by using peer review and those who are taught by using conventional method in Recount Text of the first grade at MAN 1 Tulungagung. In other words, it can be stated that peer review is considered to be effective for improving writing achievement in Recount Text.
