Abstract

The thesis entitled "Students' Anxiety in Efl Learning and Their Strategies to Reduce it" was written by Satrio with the promoter Dr. Arina Shofiya, M.Pd and Dr. Susanto, M.Pd. Keywords: Anxiety, Anxiety Factors, Strategy to Reduce Anxiety, Learning English. This research is based on factors that influence students in learning English, in this case anxiety. Anxiety plays an important role in English learning outcomes. Student anxiety is a real problem faced by most students in learning English as a foreign language. Some students may claim to have anxiety when learn to speak a second or foreign language. It makes students less confident, stressed, and nervous which hinders their learning process. Given the context, universities have evolved and the needs of their students to learn English are increasing. Therefore, researchers are interested in seeing and digging deeper and understanding how the anxiety of students in learning a foreign language. The formulation are: 1) What are the factors affecting students’ anxiety in EFL learning?; 2) How do the factors affective students’ anxiety in EFL learning?; and 3) What are the students' strategies to reduce their anxiety in EFL Learning?. The purpose of this study is: 1) provide an explanation of what factors influence student anxiety in EFL learning; 2) provide an explanation of how the factors that affect student anxiety in EFL learning; and 3) explain how students' strategies to reduce their anxiety in EFL Learning. This study uses a descriptive qualitative research design. The methods used in data collection techniques are questionnaires and interviews. The steps to analyze the data are data reduction, data presentation, and data verification or drawing conclusions. Meanwhile, to check the validity of the findings carried out by triangulation. The results of this study are the causes of anxiety factors in language learning and their impact on EFL learning is reflected in several aspects shown by the speakers, such as speaking in front of many people and being afraid of making mistakes, making the student's anxiety even higher. and there are still several more factors that influence anxiety in their learning, in addition to the two previous factors, students' perceptions of themselves are one of the biggest factors that determine whether students are anxious or not, these students are too excessive in underestimating their respective abilities. Uniquely, the anxiety factors found in this study can be overcome by these students through their respective analyzes using methods and strategies that are right for them, such as by using technology to add to their own knowledge in supporting the knowledge they get in the classroom. and also foster their confidence to be even more active in learning English by practicing more outside the classroom.
