Abstract

ABSTRACT Ibad, Irsadul. Student Registered Number. 3213113015. 2015.’’ A Study on Lecturers’ Strategies Used in Teaching Transactional Speaking Class on 2nd Semester at IAIN Tulungagung. Thesis English Education Department Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor: M. Basuni, M.Pd Keywords: Lecturers’ strategies, Transactional Speaking class, and contribution of lecturer’s strategies. Success in teaching depends on many factors, one of them is teaching strategies. Teachers have to perform appropriate strategies for teaching and learning speaking becausethe use of teacher strategies depends on studentsspeaking proficiency. Good communication between teacher and students shows indicator of the teaching success. Teachers need to control students in learning process and performing various learning process because various learning process can build good learning situation. Teachers strategy is also useful to increase teachers capability in delivering material so the students get building their desire to study. The researcher has problem of the research were: What kind of strategies used in teaching Transactional Speaking class on 2nd semester at IAIN Tulungagung?To what extend are the lecturer’s strategies contribution to the students’ speaking ability? Meanwhile, the purpose of this study is: To find out strategies which are used in teaching Transactional Speaking on 2nd semester at IAIN Tulungagung and to find outthe lecturer’s strategies contribution to the students’ speaking ability. The research design in this study was descriptive qualitative. Then the subject of this research are lecturer of Transactional Speaking class and students of TBI 2C IAIN Tulungagung. The data of this research were taken from observation and interview with lecturer and students of Transactional speaking class. The result showed that in teaching Transactional Speaking the lecturer uses various teaching strategies they are: cooperative strategy, self management and cooperation, and minimal responses. There are contributions of lecturer strategies for students’ speaking skill improvement are: to enrich vocabulary in speaking, to make student more active to speak, and to make students more confidence to perform in front of the class.
