Student Registered Number 12510184016. 2021. “The Correlation between Learning Motivation and Vocabulary Mastery toward Reading Comprehension of the Eight Grade Students of SMPN 3 Wonomulyo”. Thesis. Keywords: Correlation, Learning Motivation, Vocabulary Mastery, Reading Comprehension. The successful of students’ reading comprehension is influenced by internal factors and external factors. Motivation and vocabulary mastery are included the internal factors. Learning motivation is as an internal process that can give energize to students’ behavior which is realized into action will be transferred into cognition, feeling, and action. Vocabulary mastery is students’ ability to recognize, understand and produce the stock of words and their meaning. This study used quantitative correlational research as the research method. The objective of this study was to find out the strength of the relation between learning motivation and vocabulary mastery toward reading comprehension of the eighth grade student of SMPN 3 Wonomulyo. The population of this study were all the eighth grade students of SMPN 3 Wonomulyo. The researcher took 40 students as the sample by using random sampling. In collecting the data, the reseacher uses questionnaire to know whether the students have learning motivation or not and tests to measure students’ vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension. The researcher used Method of Successive Interval to transform ordinal scale into interval scale of the learning motivations score. Pearson Product Moment and Multiple Linear Regression are used in analyzing the data. The result of this study show that (1) there is a positive correlation between learning motivation and reading comprehension with correlation coefficient 0,547 and with -value (0,000) < α (0,05). (2) there is positive correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension with correlation coefficient 0,526 and with -value (0,000) < α (0,05). (3) there is positive correlation between learning motivation and vocabulary mastery toward reading comprehension with correlation model summary R= 0,692 > r-table = 0.312 and significant Fchange is 0,000 < 0.05, then it means the Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. Based on this result, the researcher concluded that students’ learning motivation and vocabulary mastery correlate simultaneously and significantly toward students’ reading comprehension. The increasing of learning motivation and vocabulary mastery are followed by increasing of reading comprehension.
