Abstract

ABSTRACT The thesis title is “The Effectiveness of U-Dictionary Application Teaching Media towards English Pronunciation of The Eleventh Grade Students at SMK Islam 1 Durenan” written by Ninda Ulfiani. Keywords: effectiveness, English pronunciation, u-dictionary. English Pronunciation is one of the most important aspects of English teaching. Pronunciation will make the communication with the other person easier because the speaker can speak clearly. Thus, listener can also understand the meaning of spoken language without misunderstanding. One of the learning media that can support teaching English pronunciation is the U-Dictionary application. This media is based on sophisticated technology and is easily accessible using the internet network or without an internet network. The formulation of the research problem was “Is there any significant difference in scores of the students that taught English pronunciation by using U Dictionary and those students who was taught by using conventional method of the eleventh grade students at SMK Islam 1 Durenan”. Quantitative approach on Quasi-experimental was the design of this research. This research population was the eleventh grade students at SMK slam 1 Durenan. The samples were XI OTKP 1 class consisted of 24 students and XI OTKP 2 class consisted of 26 students. The instrument for the research was test. Then, T-test was used for the data analysis. The results showed that the U-Dictionary application was effectively used as a learning media in teaching pronunciation to eleventh grade students of SMK slam 1 Durenan. This is indicated by the pre-test average value taught using the U-Dictionary s 61.00 and the post-test average score s 73.71. Meanwhile, the pre-test mean score taught using conventional methods was 56.08 and the mean score for the post-test was 57.69. The results of hypothesis testing using the t-test show that the significant value s 0.00, which is less than 0.050. Thus the null hypothesis is rejected, so it can be concluded that the U-Dictionary provides an effective and significant impact in teaching English pronunciation.
