Abstract
ABSTRACT Widiarsa, Aditya. Student Registered Number. 17203163125. 2020. Figurative Language in John Keats’ Selected Poems. Thesis. English Department. Faculty Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. Muh. Basuni, M.Pd. Keywords: Figurative Language, Poems, John Keats Figurative language is referred to a language that different from traditional form in order to convey a complicated meaning, beautiful writing, simplicity, or mindful comparison. In figurative language, people have to think imaginatively to catch the meaning of figurative language. The figurative language used in many human literatures which one of them is poem. Based on the background above, the researcher used to conduct a research for figurative language in poems which were written by John Keats. The research problems were; (1) What kinds of figurative language that being used in selected John Keats’ poems? (2) What are the meanings of the message that conveyed in selected John Keats’ poems? The purposes of this research were; (1) To find what kinds of figurative language that being used in selected John Keats’ poems. (2) To know the meaning of the messages that conveyed in selected John Keats’ poems. The researcher used library research to answer the questions that presented in the formulation of research problems. The source data was the selected Keats’ poetries. They are; Fancy, To Lord Byron, Ode on Melancholy, Ode to Nightingale and To Autumn. The result findings were; (1) The researcher found nine kinds of figurative language in John Keats’ selected poems. They are: metaphor, simile, personification, alliteration, allusion, hyperbole, repetition litotes and oxymoron. (2) The generalization of the message in John Keats’ poems was to learn and understand about the human negative emotions and the beauty of nature which accompanied by.
