Keywords : Teacher’s pedagogical competence, Musyawarah Guru Mata Pelajaran (MGMP), teachers’ professionalism development, teachers’ perception. Being teacher does not mean as the final of learning. Although formal education program is trusted highly contributing to teachers’ professionalism development, lifelong learning is a principal they must hold in order to always be ready with the instructional innovations. The quality of an education system is defined by its teachers’ quality. Teachers are the foundation of education. As teachers, they are responsible for their career development and self-improvement. One of programs implemented by the government as the strategy to support teachers’ professionalism development is Musyawarah Guru Mata Pelajaran (MGMP). This study focuses on investigating teachers of English Junior High School in Tulungagung about their viewpoints on MGMP in supporting their pedagogical competence which might give them contributions to improve their teaching skill. The study belongs to descriptive qualitative research. The subjects were the Chief of MGMP and four members of MGMP who were selected through questionnaire and the recommendation of the Chief of MGMP. The questionnaire was also used to collect general information about teachers’ views on MGMP in supporting their pedagogical competence. Then, interview was also employed to collect more detailed information or data about the teachers’ views on MGMP in supporting their pedagogical competence and how the MGMP contributions affect their teaching skill. In this study, the researcher analyzed the data found qualitatively using Interactive models proposed by Miles and Huberman. The result of the study shows that the teachers perceive MGMP as good program of teacher professional development because it is contributive and effective for teachers in developing their professionalism especially for their pedagogical competence. MGMP is also considered as important and helpful program for teachers’ ongoing learning process to be able to be competent teachers and do the improvement for their practices on English instruction. Meanwhile, regarding to the MGMP contributions that affect the teachers skill in teaching, based on the result of the study, it was found that there are some contributions deal with aspects of pedagogical competence that the teachers gain at most from the MGMP program, both routine and development program. It covers understanding the students’ characteristics, managing learning activity (designing lesson plan, conducting learning activity, using technology as media of learning, conducting research, doing learning evaluation and self-reflection), and actualizing the students’ potential through learning activity.
