ABSTRACT Pratiwi, Kusumaningtyas Dyah (12203173155). 2021. Teachers’ Strategies in Online Teaching Reading Comprehension at First Grade of MAN 3 Tulungagung. A Thesis of English Education Department, Faculty of Education and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. Hj.Ida Isnawati, M.Pd. Keywords : Teachers’ Strategies, Online Teaching Reading Comprehension Learning strategy must be considered when teaching. The use of the strategy was hoped to establish the students improve their knowledge. Nowadays, the process of teaching and learning held by online, so teacher must prepare teaching strategy that suit for online learning. The implementation of the strategy in learning, especially in online reading comprehension need to be considered the effectiveness. Suitable strategy that used very affect on the success of online learning reading comprehension. This research focused on the strategy used by teacher in online teaching reading comprehension. The focus of this research are (1) What are the teachers’ strategies in online teaching reading comprehension at first grade of MAN 3 Tulungagung (2) How do the strategies help the teachers in online teaching reading comprehension at first grade of MAN 3 Tulungagung (3) What problems are faced by the teacher in online teaching reading comprehension at first grade of MAN 3 Tulungagung. the objectives of this research (1) knowing the teachers’ strategies in online teaching reading comprehension at first grade of MAN 3 Tulungagung (2) describing how the strategies help the teachers in online teaching reading comprehension at first grade of MAN 3 Tulungagung (3) knowing the problems are faced by the teacher in online teaching reading comprehension at first grade of MAN 3 Tulungagung. This study used qualitative research and the design was descriptive design. The research was conducted in MAN 3 Tulungagung. in collecting the data, the researcher used interview and documents. The data was analyzied using descriptive analysis technique. The result of this study was as follows : (1) the strategies used by the teachers in online teaching reading comprehension divided into three stages, those are pre-reading, while-reading, and post-reading. In pre-reading stage, the strategies that used are (a) introducing the topic, (b) skimming, (c) scanning, and (d) memorizing. In while-reading stage, teachers used (a) memorizing, (b) Problem Based Learning (PBL), and (c) Question Answer Relationship (QAR). Then, in post-reading stage teachers used (a) deciding text’s message and main idea, (b) examine grammatical structure, and (c) Problem Based Learning (PBL). (2) The strategies help the teachers such as (a) enhance students’ reading comprehension, (b) increase students’ vocabulary, and (c) improve students’ grammar knowledge. (3) The problems in online teaching reading comprehension was divided into two specifications, such as : (a) problems from teacher and (b) external problems.
