English Education Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor : Dr. H. Nursamsu, M.Pd. Key Words : Teachers Role, Learn Motivation The success of a learning can not be separated from the role of the teacher as an educator in the school environment. In the learning process, the learning teacher motivates his students to create a fun and conducive learning atmosphere. In learning English which is based on theory and practice, the teacher must be able to motivate students. Not only theoretically, because there are many skills to be practiced. There are two problem formulations that will be analyzed. The formulation of the first research problem is (1) What is the teacher's role in improving students' motivation to learn English at SMAN 1 Srengat Blitar? (2) What are the obstacles faced by English teachers in improving students' motivation to learn English at SMAN 1 Srengat Blitar?. The research design in this research is a case study with a qualitative approach. The subjects are taught by three English teachers, then the Headmaster, and the last two students of the eleventh grade. The research uses interviews, observations, and documentations as the instrument of the research. The data analysis in the research is classifying or tabulating data, data reduction, data display and the last making conclusion with triangulation to get saturated data. The findings of this study stated that: (1) The teachers role in improving student motivation at SMAN 1 Srengat Blitar was shown by the teacher as a teacher who could act as an educator, tutor, facilitator, mediator, motivator, evaluator. The forms of motivation are clarifying the goals to be achieved, Arousing student interest, creating a pleasant learning atmosphere, Using various attractive presentation methods, Giving reasonable praise for each student's learning outcomes. success, Giving an assessment, Commenting on student work, creating competition and cooperation. (2) Obstacles faced by teachers in learning English there are obstacles from internal and external factors from within students. The internal factor in this study is the level of understanding of students who are different. Meanwhile external factors are factors from parents and the social environment as well as the community around students. The conclusions in teaching and learning activities the teacher is the holder of a very important role, it is the teacher's duties and responsibilities, planning and implementing the process of teaching and learning activities, the teacher must have the ability both in conveying and motivating, so that it is easily understood by students. The internal and external factors of students must also be considered in order to achieve the expected learning objectives.
