Key Words :Task Based Learning, Improvment, Writing Skills. Descriptive text is a type of writing that requires students to have the ability to describe an object in detail. In addition, students must have the skills to use various kinds of vocabulary to develop ideas and the ability to compose sentences in a good grammatical order. To make it easier for students to master these aspects in writing descriptive texts, teaching writing descriptive texts must be interesting. One way to create an interesting teaching and learning process is to write descriptive text by using the right strategy. One of the strategies is the Task Based Learning (TBL) method. This study was conducted to prove or verify whether the Task Based Learning (TBL) method is effective in improving students' writing skills. The purpose of this study was to determine the significant difference score in writing skill scores between class X students of MAN 1 Trenggalek who used the Task Based Learning (TBL) method and students who used not the Task Based Learning (TBL) method. The research method in this study used a quasi-experimental design with two groups of pre-test and post-test. The population in this study were students of class X MAN 1 Trenggalek. The sample in this study were 27 students who were selected through purposive sampling technique. Quantitative data were taken from descriptive texts from students' writings. The research instrument in the form of pre-test and post-test from both classes was statistically analyzed using t-test. The data analysis method used computational statistics in the form of an independent T-test using SPSs 16.0 for windows to analyze the data.In the pre-test experimental class the average value was 54.38 and 53.30 for the control class which only showed a slight difference of 1.08 points. Meanwhile, the post-test average value for the experimental class was 79.14 and 64.07 for the control class which had a difference of 15.07 points. Although there is a slight difference between the two averages, the results show that the experimental class post-test is better than the control class post-test. The hypothesis in this study shows that the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, because the p-value < sig (0.00 < 0.05) indicates that the Task Based Learning (TBL) method is effective when applied in students writing skills on 10th grade of MAN 1 Trenggalek for the 2020/2021 school year.
