The Correlation between English Students’ Frequency in Watching English Movie and Their Ability to Pronounce Word Stress Sarjana Thesis. English Education Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung Advisor : Dr. Arina Shofiya, M.Pd. Keywords : Correlation, Movie, Pronunciation, Word stress. There were such a big amount researchers conducting the study regarding the correlation between student’s frequency in watching English movie with their pronunciation ability. Meanwhile, pronunciation includes broad aspects, so the researcher thinks that more specific research is needed. In this research, the researcher is interested in conducting the study that focus on one of the aspect of pronunciation which is word stress. The lack of attention from students and teachers to the importance of word stress and the limited theoretical knowledge concerning the way to place right stress on right syllable of English words make the researcher is interested in conducting the research about The Correlation between English Student’s Frequency in Watching English Movie and Their Ability to Pronunciation Word Stress” This research aims to search out the correlation between English Student’s Frequency in watching English movie and their ability to pronounce word stress. The research design that was employed in this research was correlational research by using quantitative approach. This research consists of two variables which are English Student’s frequency n watching English movie as independent variable (X) while student’s ability to pronounce word stress as dependent variable. The data of The English student’s frequency in watching English movie was obtained from questionnaire and the data of the learner’s ability to pronunciation word stress was obtained from pronunciation test. The researcher uses all the students at second semester of English Department at IAIN Tulungagung in academic year 2020/2021 that consist of 222 students as the population of the research. Then, the researcher decided to take 15% of the total of population by using random sampling technique. The research finding of the frequency of watching English movie score is 33,54 that categorized in fair. The mean of the word stress pronunciation test is 34,60 that categorized in good. In addition, the result of the correlation calculation by using SPSS 25 and manual calculation showed that the value of correlation is 0,225 which interpreted as positive correlation in low level. In conclusion, there is no correlation between English Student’s frequency in watching English movie and their ability to pronounce word stress at second semester of English Department at IAIN Tulungagung in academic year 2020/2021.
