Keyword: writing anxiety, writing anxiety factors, strategies to overcome writing anxiety Writing can help students develop vocabulary, skills and express their creative thoughts and can improve the skills of expressing opinions. However, writing is often considered as a difficult skill because most students usually have difficulty expressing ideas even in simple written form. It takes literacy knowledge and preparation to write well in a foreign language. They have to learn about grammar, spelling and vocabulary at the same time. Students are often filled with anxiety when asked to write in certain situations. However, anxiety that is too high affects language learning and writing processes. Anxiety that is too high can lead to less success in language test, students with less anxiety can perform better and are able to use more complex language structures. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors that cause students to feel anxious in writing English thesis at the English Department of IAIN Tulungagung and explain the strategies used by students to overcome their writing anxiety at the English department of IAIN Tulungagung. The researcher used a qualitative descriptive research design. The data source of this research are 8th semester students who are working on the thesis, majoring in TBI at IAIN Tulungagung. Data were collected using interviews. Researchers took interviews to find out of the anxiety of TBI students in writing English. Interviews were given to collect data related to the factors and strategies used by TBI students in writing English in writing English thesis. After collecting the data, the researcher analyzed the data found qualitatively. The results of this study indicate that the causes of writing anxiety in writing thesis are fear of negative evaluation, lack of confidence, lack of writing technique, language difficulties and time pressure. And the strategies used by students to overcome writing anxiety are positive thinking, read books, enough rest, be diligent, try to relax and seek for help.
